i don't eat pork, so i substituted leftover roast turkey, and i omitted the almonds.

These look good. Did you sub anything for the lard? Also, how long did it take you to make these?

hallacas are Venezuelan! They're a BIG deal. Most people make hallacas for Christmas and it's a get-together-with-friends-and-make-tons-all-day-with-beer kind of project. Or you can order them.

in the past, we have ordered them from one of mr. 'poo's coworkers... but she moved, and so i had to try.
MUCH easier to order.
Aw, I wish I could help you get your hands on some, 'bou. If I visit up there again, I know what I'm bringing.
Pastichio is really beloved there, too. Maybe you can trade someone some pastichio for hallacas.

I had to google that, but it totally looks like something I could make. And I've recently fallen in love with bechamel.
I'm breezing through Toronto in a couple weeks on my way elsewhere... anywhere there you know of to get hallacas? :d
I am going to ask!!!
