Good idea...or just another device that you have fun using a few times and then it takes up space in the cupboard?

I had one, it took FOREVER to dry anything, I gave it away. I have been reconsidering buying an Excalibur one though......

I converted one into a bowling ball oven. :)
*The modern bowling ball absorbs the lane oil so the reactive cover stock can contact the lane's surface and create friction. It will eventually reach a saturation point and you need heat to get the ball to shed the oil so it will once again react to the lane surface.
Is there any reason you couldn't use a regular oven with the temp set really low and the door ajar to dehydrate food? Works for beef jerky.
I was thinking about getting them for the kids xmas present...

in that case it is BRILLIANT
because even it it's just a bit of fun a few times, you can starting asking them for dehydrated stuff for gifts, which will make them keep using it
I would be very happy to get one for xmas, largely because I'd like one but can't justify buying it for myself.
(I would also be happy to get a new oven that I could set at a low temp and leave the door open...)

One thing I read is that people like to make doggie treats and my kids would do that for sure...

My parents use theirs quite a bit in the summer, but that's because they have two peach trees and they dry like half of what they harvest. I don't think they have ever really used it for anything else. Also they have a lot of storage space.
