Title: Wednesday March 25, 2026
Post by: kawasa on March 25, 2026, 02:23:47 PM
Took yesterday off entirely to spend time with my wife and newborn daughter. Today I got in 5.3 hilly miles. The weather was great, 49°F and sunny with just a bit of a breeze.

Legs are feeling weird, like I could either bust out a 5K PR or maybe just take a few weeks off running. Very strange.

To be young and able to set PRs again! (my last was in 1991, 15 km)

And speaking of the long ago past, I drove 40 minutes to a wildlife reserve where I worked for several months way WAY back in the early 1980s. I had not been back there since and it was a good reflective run. I was young then (23-24) and now I'm quite old but still running.

Ran 8.6 miles easy (yesterday's workout was definitely in my legs) in about 75 minutes on a sandy road that circles through a large (many thousand acre) marsh that serves as wildlife habitat. It was fun to go back and to think about the past. It was just after college. Most of my teammates quit running much as soon as they graduated but for whatever reasons I just kept going. I was mentally and physically trashed after college and it was here running through those marsh roads, about a year and a half later, that I actually got my legs back and I learned to run on own and to go by feel. With so many gadgets now telling us what to do, running by feel is a good skill to have.

enough musing for the day!

Slung a 1000lbs of scrap metal out of my work pickup truck at the metal yard, as we closed a store and had a huge bunch of no longer needed fixtures. Earned $173 CDN for my efforts, which will go to meals for the store closing crew over the next three days.

8.4K after getting home. Temps just a few ticks above freezing.
