Plugging Along

10k time trial. After the 9 miler on sunday my foot was sore so I took a day off and kept it easy for a few more days.
Time to see if my foot is injured or just sore. It was feeling pretty good and I was ready for something.
Debated between an all out mile or a 10k, after warming up I decided on the 10k.

My SB was over 54 minutes and I knew that was pretty soft. From work outs I figured I had a
good chance of going under 53 minutes. Some quick math said 2:08 laps with a kick would do the trick.

As usual my first lap was fast and my second lap was slow. I'm not sure why I do this.
But it takes me about 4 minutes to get into a rhythm and settle into pace.

2:03, 2:06, 2:04, 2:04
First mile in 8:21, and it felt easy. Forget 53, sub 52 seemed possible.
Another mile in 8:21, then it really started feeling easy.
2:01, 2:01, 2:02, 2:03. 3rd mile in 8:10.
And I just kept cruising. 8:12, 8:16.

An all out kick might get me under 51, but the foot was starting to
ache and I didn't want to risk it.
2:04, 2:03, 2:03, 2:02, and a closing lap of 1:52.

Crossed the line in 51:09.
A new SB by almost three and a half minutes.
Also SBs for 4 miles and 5 miles.
Splits of 25:44 and 25:25

The foot didn't bother me too much during the run.
I used the shower head to jet hot water on the spot of the old injury,
and wore the plantar brace during the night.
Foot was fine in the morning with only the usual stiffness.

If the foot is still fine for Sunday's 10 miler then the
half marathon next weekend looks like a go :runner:
