Holy crap!  First woman in her first marathon ever.. her time was 2:51: 40 something.. she graduated West Point and ran xc there.. and is in the marines.. but holy crap.. that's impressive...

I don't follow it really but I wonder if it's common for an active marine to win? Probably..

Carson

They don't offer prize money, so it's not uncommon for a "regular person" to win MCM.

Kudos to her!

The winner of the 2014 Marine Corps Marathon is not a marine (and despite Uncle Fred's insistence, you were right not to capitalize the word "marine."). She's captain in the U.S. Army and a graduate of Chelmsford High School in Massachusetts. Maybe your daughter was thinking of someone else.

I ran the MCM in '08.  No elite runners in the field and it was a congested, slow race.

MOS, are you sure she is in the marines?  Why would a West Point grad be in the marines?
