Help me get to MCM

Has anyone run marine corps marathon?  The shuttle situation has me a little confused.

I ran it, but it was in 2013 when you could just take the Metro to the start.  No shuttles.  Sorry.

My friends ran it last year and the security was a shit show. The race had started and they weren't through it yet. Big debacle as they should have been focused on getting the runners through vs baby strollers. Give yourself a lot of time.

I've heard that. 

Found a hotel w/a shuttle to the shuttles.  So, I got that going for me.

I just metro'd to the start...this was 2004?  Security was crazy...9-11 and all...cops in full battle gear with MP-5 submachine guns...

Oy. I ran a few months after the Boston Marathon bombing.  My mom was worried I was like, the course is literally lined with Marines for all 26.2 miles...

what do I need to bring?  Am I forgetting anything?

I ran it in 2008 when you could take the Metro and walk in.  Getting there was easy, getting out was a nightmare.
