I ran into the supermarket yesterday for ricotta cheese and on my way to the dairy section I cut through international foods... lo an behold, P.A.N was sitting on the shelf right next to the masa harina.

I am stoked to be able for finally make arepas.

What else can I use it for?

diablita

Yay!  I only use it for arepitas.  I'm not sure what else it can be used for but I'll ask a friend. :)

You'd like arepas with reina pepiada, I think

This thread reads like secret code to me.  ???

:D  google is your friend.  They're typical Venezuelan foods

I MADE AREPAS TODAY!

I will be making them again, and again, and again.  I don't even know if I did a good job or not, but they were great.  The dough was wetter than I expected, but they were crispy on the outside and hot and soft and steamy inside.  We filled them with leftovers from last night (refried beans & chipotle braised chicken).

Well now I'm suddenly starving.  But carbs are off the table.  Thanks  >:(  J/k, they sound delicious.  I'll circle back and give arepas a try when I'm not being weird about my diet.

they sound perfect.  The dough is VERY wet when you first mix it (hard to imagine you can shape it) but when you let it sit for 5-10 min it becomes firmer and more moldable.  Your fillings sound perfect; G-d forbid a Venezuelan eat a vegetable.  :D

radial, totally worth it the next time you decide to have corn

the wetness worried me at first but even while I was stirring it together I could feel it thickening, so I decided I just had to trust the instructions...

diablita

yes!  matzo ball soup mix is the same way (though it goes in the fridge to firm up before shaping)
