Walmsley through Auburn Lakes Trails (85.2) in 11:56.  Last year was 12:16; he's been steadily 20 minutes under CR pace for a long time.  Sub 14 is probably out, but he's dead on 14:10 pace.   Hazen now 12 minutes back, but still under CR pace himself.

the kenyan

Walmsley through Quarry Road (90.7) in 12:42.  Last year was 13:03.  Now 21 minutes under!

the kenyan

Mark Hammond is up to 5th!

Hazen appears to have gone AWOL.  Take it away Jim!  Just don't get lost.

the kenyan

Courtney through Rucky Chuck in 13:10. 13:22 last year, but she's slowed down and has her thigh taped up.  Still has a big cushion.

the kenyan

Walmsley through Pointed Rocks (94.3) in 13:18, 24 minutes ahead now!  Sub 14 might not be out of the question if he floors it (~7min mile pace)!!!

the kenyan

Hazen has been found!  14 minutes back as of 90.7.  Just sluggish on the updates.  Still 30+ minutes up on third.

the kenyan

Courtney's lead was down to 12 minutes as Rucky Chucky, so not as big a cushion as I thought!  Not sure what she's dealing with, but we'll see if she can grit her way through the last 22 miles.

the kenyan

Jim through No Hands Bridge in 13:37.   That means he needs to do the last 3.2 in under 23 minutes.  I think there's still a bit of climbing to go too.  However he did run the last stretch at 7:12 pace, so he's hauling.  GOGOGOGOGO!!! :runner:

WALMSLEYWINS!!!

14:09:28!  Still waiting to see if Hazen can slip in under the CR as well.  Insanity.  You might not see another race like this for 50 years.

Courtney has pulled out at Green Gate, the physical issues appear to have gotten the best of her  :'(

Coyote Mas Loco

Ultra runners are a different breed. Sort of the Deadheads of the running world.

But 14:09 sounds utterly amazing. Walmsley has lived up to his billing!
I'll stick to running, thank you.

the kenyan

Hazen home in 14:26.  An altogether reasonable day on the trails.

Both under Walmsley's previous record.  Truly amazing.

Sorry for Courtney.  And also for the Kyle Robioux.  Looks like he dropped before mile 16.  Hope it was a great experience for him and his pacers, though.

10 guys under 16 hours for the first time ever.   You can probably count the numbers of times there's been half that many on one hand too.  To cap it off, 7-10th all finished within 2 minutes of each other.  Fun times!  8)

I guess if there's a silver lining to Courtney's implosion, it's that we have a race again on the women's side.  3 minutes between first and second at Quarry Road!  :panic:

the kenyan

In the "boy does that suck!" category, 2017 winner Ryan Sandes just beat his winning time by over 10 minutes...and didn't make the top 10  :hah:

the kenyan

Obviously Walmsley and Hazen stole the show today, but how about Tom fucking Evans??  First hundred miler and he runs sub 15 hours at Western States (by the skin of his teeth in 14:59:42)!!

the kenyan

#36
Top 2 ladies neck and neck at mile 94!  :panic:

and if they cross the finish line holding hands, they should be summarily executed.  RACERACERACE!!!  :incazzato:

the kenyan

Clare Gallagher (original leader after Courtney dropped) is back up by a minute and a half at 97 miles.  That's more like it!

the kenyan

And last but not least in the 'getting your money's worth' category, Lane Shimonishi shimmied his way to Auburn in 29:59:38, making it with 22 seconds to spare!  :runner:
