I have a tradition that started many years ago when I lived in NY. I can thank my ex, since it was his doing. King crab for Christmas dinner. I don't remember much else being served except for this wicked awesome onion french bread from the local seafood market.

Now it has morphed into King crab legs, steamed fingerlings with garlic and fresh dill  and fresh tiny green bean. I think I'll shuck up a couple dozen Malpeques (oysters) for apps.  All of it served with copious amounts of Champagne. :D

my favorite!

a partridge in a pear tree theme

I love a themed menu, and yours is brilliant!

I'm gonna add cheese fries to my menu and go with a devil snowman guarding the snow-covered woodpile theme.

Christmas Eve - ham, roasted sweet potatoes and onions, broccoli and Christmas cookies.  I have to work half a day and it is just the three of us for dinner.

Christmas - roasted parsnip soup, stuffed Cornish hens, creamed spinach and a flourless chocolate cake

Christmas breakfast - apple bran muffins (DD's request), eggs, bacon and lots of fabulous coffee.

Reservations Friday night for my birthday!

I haven't even though about New Year's eve but New Year's day is hoppin' john, of course!

Christmas Eve: fried shrimp, fried chicken, fried jalepiños, fried okra, French fries, big salad, pie. We always have a theme. This year it's fry daddy. My favorite was our redneck Christmas because we had a lot of cheese dip and pigs in a blanket type stuff.

Christmas Day: Ham and whatever else my mom makes, and more pie.

New Years Eve: (which is Christmas with the in-laws) gumbo, salad, French bread. Even more pie.

it's tomorrow and we haven't even shopped!

xmas eve... maybe homemade pizza.  or Chinese.

xmas day... .99/lb disgusting Wal-Mart turkey at souls house.

boxing day... delicious free range turkey at our house, hosting my family.   expensive,  but so worth it.

Xmas eve
Pizza from two different local places as the group is divided over the best pizza place.

Xmas
A is making beef tenderloin for 10 people, cream of asparagus soup, some kind of potato deal (imagine twice baked potatoes without the skins) plus lots of apps including hanky panks (my favorite).  Also I bought some flash frozen ginormous shrimp a week ago that look good along with cocktail sauce I found at the store from a favorite restaurant.  I'm not sure about sharing the shrimp but I'm leaning towards it.

I'm curious who the contenders are for best pizza.

I want to come eat with you...this and that crab you posted elsewhere. My newly discovered shellfish allergy may make it my last meal but it would be worth it.

My parents are coming over and we started a new tradition of me cooking Xmas eve for the 3 of us. This works because I can drink as much wine as I want and don't have to drive home. This year I am making a roast chicken, roasted asparagus and roasted potatoes. A salad w goat cheese, strawberries and walnuts. I have some Brie, crackers and dip etc. I am making an apple crumble too w vanilla ice cream. I think I'm starting at 2 to get everything ready.
Xmas day is at my sisters and I am hoping for ham.

Well at this stage in my life I don't love my mother's cooking and she does all the sides when we go to my sister's so that's enough exposure to it. It's dry, over cooked and the same shit for 30+ yrs. I'm not the best cook but I try. Once my sister got married and now that its just the 3 of us on Xmas eve it was time to shake things up. And I can drink more. Don't forget that part.

That sounds preferable to my family gatherings. Is there a space open at the table? I don't eat much.

Plenty of room and plenty of food. Apple crisp is done and veggies are chopped. I need to start the chicken soon. Did I mention they wanted to come over at 5?? I asked that they leave the house at 5:30. Otherwise we're done early and looking at each other by 7. I broke the coffee pot today so no coffee. :(

I have no idea.  Probably Italian.  I'm supposed to bring a salad.  I may bring some bread too because my nephew pretty much eats ALL the bread and I love bread too.
Ellen stole my joy and I want it back!
