I stalked the AT for a bit but saw no Jurek, or anyone. Got home, took a look at the tracker and looks like I headed home about 10 minutes too soon!  :fiery:

DH wants to see him today.

I should've come out to MA a week earlier  >:(

Jurker is going to shatter this record unless something bad happens.

DH ran with him and Karl Meltzer today, here in MA.

Wow, he is having a hard time keeping up his caloric need. I did not even recognize him.

yikes!

Let's look at some figures - it looks as though he has just over 400 miles left today (day 35).  Current record is 46 1/2.  That's 10 days of averaging 40/day to have a lock on it, which is well within what he's been doing.  Definitely doable, but more difficult being on the tough part of the trail.  I hope he feels better than he looks!

The pictures that DH showed me do not look like this at all.  This might just be a poor angle.

Perhaps. Harsh lighting for sure!

My buddy Marshall Ulrich had some harsh words for Scott and his vegan-esque diet. I do not agree with Marshall and was surprised to see his strong words. When he did his run across America, averaging 50miles+ a day, he ate mostly junk and fast and not sure I agree that is the best to fuel an athletic endeavor. If it were me, I would probably be surviving on peanut butter and smoothies made with avocados and flax oil.

I think Scott Jurek is smart & experienced enough to handle his own nutrition.  Yes, he looks very thin but I'm sure it's just part of the deal when you run that much for all those days in a row. He wouldn't be able keep going if he were truly not getting enough.  He'll gain some weight back when he's done.

How would you make a smoothie on the AT? :D
he has his wife and entourage following him in a Rv!

Caito- he looks no different than other thru hikers i have seen by the end.

3 days and no posts on the FB page. Luis Escobar is the photographer who was there at the onset and is back now. He posted yesterday or the day before.

The latest comments say that it will be close. We shall see. Time is almost up.

That was what I saw, that it will be VERY close. He has to pull over 50 miles a day to the end. Also, I am unclear why N-->S and S--> N thru hikes are not differentiated in the record holding. Seems to be a difference depending on which direction you go. I wonder why Jurek chose S-->N.

I thought the South to North thing was about weather?  OR is that just for walkers?
