I just got this from my grandma's estate. I also have her 1960s jello molds. So excited!

Going to make some awesome (or disgusting) jello combos!

That is awesome. We keep saying we are going to do a jello pot luck at work...if we do this, I will need suggestions.

Just don't make green jello with shredded carrots. This is like the epitome of Mormon food and it is nasty. But if there's a recipe that has crushed pretzels on the bottom, some kind of red jello with strawberries in it, and whipped cream on top, that's hella good and you should totally make it.

Post some recipes!  My grandmom/mom had one that was like, blueberry Jell-O with sour cream and maybe some fruit chunks in it. The recipe sounds strangely appealing.

Run Amok

I was raised by hippies and remember the time someone brought jello (this strange and wonderful food!) to a picnic. It was a "salad" with orange jello, a layer of sour cream, and a layer of apricot nectar impregnated jello. Amazing. It was right up there with the "snickers salad" at another picnic that was green apple chunks and cut up snickers bars suspended in cool whip.

I hadn't seen a Jello mold since I was kid, but a couple of years ago I was confronted with a "rainbow mold" at Thanksgiving dinner with extended family of family members.

Oh, that is DH's grandmother's strawberry salad!   :d

I thought she meant a green salad with strawberries on top, nope, jello, cool whip and pretzels!

June is diversity month (at least for the federal government) and we have to bring in an ethnic food. can I pass one of these off as ethnic?  Can I make the strawberry thing with pretzels and say it is mormon?  We are supposed to bring in something that is not OUR ethnicity.  I know Mormom is not an ethnicity, but I think it would work...

This one looks fun and the pie one doesn't require a mold.

Here's a recipe for the strawberry pretzel one. It's good.

it IS pretty...  you could take a photo of it head-on, and crop to just the edge and frame the thing.

There are so many awesome recipes in this book!

The version I saw wasn't quite so pretty on account of being destroyed by a plague of hungry locusts. :)

srsly

I was quite disappointed with Jello when I tasted it for the first time in the US. It felt like an animal product to me from the get go. I never understood why people thought it was good. The kind I grew up on was way better filled with fruit and made of furit juices of all kinds. We used agar agar. It's far more delicious and sets much quicker than the animal based Jello.
