Chasing Amy

For years, I thought I didn't like sardines. I don't know why, perhaps some childhood reinforcement from my dad who never squanders an opportunity to loudly complain about the very existence of foods he doesn't like.

Anyhow, decided to give them a try for the hell of it and what do you know! I had a lovely sardine salad sandwich (same idea as tuna) with a cheddar and a slice of heirloom tomato. Higher in iron than tuna and more sustainably fished.

I've always liked sardines.  Back in the day when it was sometimes a struggle to make ends meet, a can of sardines and a fork was all I needed to make a meal.

How does one eat smoked oysters? I like sardines and anchovies but have never branched out.

they're nice on a fancy cracker, but i prefer them in stew.

I hate HATE tinned sardines.  That might be partly due to using them as bait for trapping bears for many years.

I suspect I would really like fresh sardines.
