...damn! I coulda come back as Lady Silence! :D

If you come back as an Inuit lady, you're not allowed to shave your armpits.

Would a scrimshaw necklace suffice?

Only if it protects against the beast on the ice.

But, is this the original intent of the thread? >:(

It's a talisman, fer sure.
If a thread drifts in the ocean, and no one is around.....

Donthey definitely walked the plank.

I'm not sure about the differences between show and book. Most die, but maybe not all.

No one survived the actual expedition.

Me husband went thru a spell of reading nonfiction books about Ant/Arctic expeditions, and I want to say there was one about the Terror/Erebus journey.

There was a good one I recall called The Ice Master about the voyage of the Karluk, which set off looking for an undiscovered Arctic continent in like 1914! It’s amazing how recent some of the seemingly basic knowledge of our planet is. But I can’t imagine signing up for any polar expedition!

Yes, The actual expedition.

There was a lot of stuff in the show about them getting lead poisoning from their food tins, which linked up to the real life story.

There’s no Donthey in the book. Was he a mutineer?

The beast was just a hallucination from the lead in their brains and they actually tore each other apart.

That wasn't the ending, but it could have been!

ZyggiStarbucks

I’ve wondered all along if there’d be some twist like that.

The show ended fairly unambiguously, the beast existed. But I could see internet TV conspiracy theorists running with this theory.

siamesedream

Plus, why would they all have the same hallucination?  :D
