I sat next to a Newfie on the plane yesterday! She was going back home to St Johns after dropping off the grandkids at their mom's. I wouldn't be surprised if she belonged to the Facebook group.

yesterday, Theresa overcooked some fresh scallops then covered them in "some stuffing like used for stuffing chickens"

also this week, some loose interpretations of "stir fry"

Elvis made "Chicken stirfry drizzled with a bacon sour cream ceasar dressing"

Gayle made beef stir fry. I don't know what to say.

I see a lot of frozen vegetables in these awesome dishes.

And canned peas!  Which are so disgusting, they make themselves vomit.  :vomit:

While that beef stir fry may not actually be stir fry, I would eat the heck out of it. I love that goopy stuff.

Ice Cream

That stir fry looks like it was made in a crockpot.

Top picks from the weekend:

Diane's family had "hamburger gravy with all the fixings". Fixings appear to include, pickled beets, green tomato pickles, boiled potatoes, and rutabaga mashed with carrots.

Betsy made vegetable fried rice and chicken stir fry. And roast potatoes and carrots.

Catherine served cold fried chicken with all the "salads": macaroni salad (note: cubed cheese, squares of sliced ham), french dressing pasta salad, and vegetable potato salad.

Dorothy made bologna sandwich spread.

oh my.  that bologna sandwich spread is...something {shudder}

Sandwich spread?  I am not sure about that one.

And Catherine's sides with her cold fried chicken - could there be more carbs? I love fried chicken but I would be a mess after that meal.

Each time I see that decorative fruit basket on its regal crochet and plastic throne I am filled with joy. Obsessed.

Do you think all of that is placed in the picture as part of the styling?

Did you all notice that her table is covered with plastic with a tablecloth beneath the plastic?  :sidesplit:

It 100% reminds me of a little "B&B" we stayed at when we were in Newfoundland.  It was in a little town named Placentia and the only option there -- basically someone's home with a couple of extra bedrooms named The Best Kind B&B.

CG I think I remember reading a while back that the name comes from a colloquialism but I'm not sure?

Good one, Dorothy.  I like bologna, so I could probably eat this.  Nothing on the ingredients list that seems especially noxious, except maybe the sugar.  Oh, and the miracle whip.

2 -1/2 - cups bologna (grind)
2 - Tbsp.Celery ( diced)
2 - Tsp. onion (Diced)
2 - Eggs ( boiled & diced)
1/2 - cup miracle whip
1 - Tbsp. yellow mustard
4 - Tsp. sweet pickled relish
1 - Tbsp. white sugar
1/4 - Tsp Basil

I mean-- don't get me wrong-- the stuff I eat as regular dinner or lunch probably does not look any more appetizing than that. For example, today I had zucchini noodles w/ sauce & veggie sausages and I'm not a fancy photographer so it probably looks mostly like gloop. But I just can't imagine getting excited enough about every-day-food to post about it on facebook.

Right, that's what so great about this thread. Food photography is notoriously difficult, and most of this stuff is not really the kind of food that "foodie" people typically take pictures of. It's all just so church potluck pride, which I'm loving.

I'm sure I'd eat and enjoy almost everything in this thread if my Aunt Rosemary made it for me. (Maybe not the bologna thing... but I'd try it to be polite.) It might all be ugly but it's probably decent food, if not quite Instagram ready.
