need to be very careful with myself, or *everything* turns into a celebration or indulgence, and that does me no good.

This is meeeeee! Now that I'm being very disciplined, I can easily see that I was lying to myself about how many "celebration" meals I was indulging in weekly. Even stuff that wasn't- like just a mid- week meal out with a friend. We'd go for pho and I'd have a beer and we might order an app too. Now I'm limiting myself to ONE celabratory meal a week. I can still go out other times in a week (although I limit it- because even when you're "good" it's just hard) but if it's not my splurge meal, I don't splurge. I go with sparkling water or hot tea. No desert. I'm not entitled to a big fatty entree and a bigg fatty starter. So, I go out to thai with my friends and I have plain stirfried veggies with plain tofu and I don't eat the whole plate. No, it's not what I *wanted* but I already made up my mind that wasn't going to be the spluge meal that week. I'm not perfect, of course, but forcing myself to really think about the meal in terms of "splurge? or not a splurge" before even walking through the door, puts it in perspective for me. Maybe the splurge is a slice of pizza on saturday night over a board game with my family instead. Fine... as long as it's mindful. It's very easy for me to talk myself into what I "deserve" or how much "a little won't hurt".

So, yeah, there is room for indulgence and indulgence is necessary. But there was a LOT of room in my diet to do a whole lot less indulging, when I'm being comlpetely honest with myself.

can I count eating a Cutie (one of those small oranges in case you were being perverted) as an indulgence?

it is pretty tasty.

35 calories of indulgence!   And they're clementines.  I was absurdly proud of peeling one in one piece today.

Shut up mini. Just because google changed it, doesn't mean in elementary school, we got it wrong.

She's an awful, awful human being.

I tend to trust Mini on these issues

Yesssssss!!! That, exactly. Tomorrow night will be my splurge. It appears that I'm going to be staying home with Reid during the day - he was running a fever this afternoon - so I will most definitely want a splurge. If DH and I go to the movies on Saturday night, I'll suck it up and get a damn salad.

I may be going to a pho place for lunch this week - any recommendations?

Cake and doritos for dinner.  My head cold is getting worse and the kids have been coughing today.... BUT we've still been very happy considering.  We spent 1.5 hours bouncing at the bouncy castle place this morning and the rest of the afternoon/evening opening gifts and playing with toys.  The cakes turned out great, very rich & sweet, but tasty and pretty.

Looking forward to getting back to running tomorrow.  I'm also expecting a new niece to arrive in the next day or so!

Food tasting for our reception.  I consumed about 6854368 calories, but it was worth it.

I wish eating out was my problem. I hardly ever eat out! Tonight was the first time since Stuart left, I think. We went to 5 Seasons- a brewery restaurant place. They have lots of unusual food there, too. (I ate there with Gebuh when she came to town last year.) I had ONE beer, split the spelt bread with my friend and then had a veggie bean burger (no mayo) and subbed the fries for grit cakes. They were also fried, but man were they yummy! So different and definitely a treat since I only go to this place a couple of times a year. I ended up eating the burger without the bun, so I felt there was a little victory there. I could have JUST eaten grit cakes, though. But that wouldn't have been good for my quest to up protein. No exercise even though I told debbatx I would get up and run. TOM just isn't cooperating with my energy. I've been overly tired which explains my craptastic runs over the weekend.

Tomorrow I'm off work to go look at reception places, so the plan is to drop my car off for an oil change in the afternoon after the last appt. I plan to do my run while it's getting done. :)

Oh, and I finally broke down and ordered the Jillian program! It's on its way here. I will report back once I've tried it! *squee* So excited!

It kind of depends on what you're trying to do. Most Pho is pretty diet friendly- the beef is usually lean and the chicken skinless breast. It's a broth based soup, full of veggies and strong-tasting herbs. The thing that might get you in trouble is the noodles. White rice noodles  MUST have a pretty high GI rating, I would guess. Since every bowl is made to order, though, it's pretty easy to leave the noodles out. If you aren't worried about carbs- leave them in. You could ask for extra veggies or meat (or both)- although here they charge you for it. What I do normally is drink the broth- then eat tofu & veggies and only eat the noodles till I'm full. I usually leave at least 2/3 of the noodles behind.

If you're going to a more general vietnamese restaurant- they will have other stir-fry type items on the menu and you can just get those without the accompany starch. Of course- the stirfry is cooked in oil. But, a decent choice anyway.

I <heart> pho.

There are NO pho places out here in metro west bumbledeefuck where I live. I used to get it all the time when I lived in the city. :(

Shoot! I should have taken you to pho when you were in Seattle!

:w00t: I'm so ready to see your review! Of course, I would still have to find the actual motivation to do it :-[ And for some reason I'm really stinking hungry tonight; and I don't really like any of my "good" options available so I will probably just go to bed so I don't dive face first into the girl scout cookies!

I was at work at 7:30 am and got home at 9 pm. In meetings or class all frigging day.  Scarfed down a burrito for dinner (big but made with wild rice and grilled chicken).  Am now drinking a beer and  vegetating. Looking forward to a nice run tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the tips, RA! I'll have to see if this place has a menu posted and go from there.
