I was going to suggest cauliflower pizza as well.  Someone posted this here before and my family likes it as much as the real stuff:

I may try that!  I think that sounds better than the mushroom for sure.

Amazing that you've gone from not being able to get her in the BOB to consistent runs so quickly.  Must be so nice!

I'd love to take Reid out in the BOB for runs, but it seems unfair to everyone to drag him out of his crib at 5 AM. :D Right now, we pretty much just use it for walks to the park.

Good news:  My grandad's surgery is done, it went really well, and we are all so relieved :)  I don't remember how much I shared here, but they detected a tumor in his kidney when he did his CDL physical in April (some blood in the urine, such a small amount he didn't even know) and it was indeed a precancer tumor.  But the early detection is likely very good.  They removed his kidney  :yikes: becuase doing a needle biopsy or laproscopic surgery ran the big risk of the tumor/cancer spreading.  So it was pretty crazy, but we are lucky it was found when it was, I think.

Other good news, sort of:  The gluten free experiment I'm doing is working.  I'm down 5 lbs from last Wednesday.  I've been tracking my points as well, and I'm eating about the same number of points, just no gluten.  So, we'll see how it goes for the next couple weeks, I guess.  I'm not thrilled about this, to be honest.  Gluten is in all the food I like, dammit!

We are taking it with us to Colorado this summer, though. So it'll get some good use.

Courtney, I am SO Happy to hear everything went well with your granddad. That is awesome news.

As far as the gluten, I know a lot of people are poopooing this as the "next new fad" but I think there is something to it. I'm not saying wheat is evil, but it's in so many things, it was only a matter of time that too much of a good thing could become bad for some of us.

I have started a somewhat controversial way of eating that eliminates wheat (among many other delicious avoids.) I thought for sure bread and tortillas would be difficult for me, but oddly, it's been great, I do not miss it as much as I thought I would. It's the sugar I miss the most. Yesterday it took all of my strength not to eat the small pieces of brownie off the knife as I sliced them.

For now I will join you in the no-wheat thing and support you in any way I can. Do you know where I feel it? My gut. It doesn't feel as bloated and "fat" as usual. I'm only down about a pound, but I'm not too worried about weight. I want to heal my insides.

Courtney, that's awesome about your grandfather AND that the gluten-free is working. DH would divorce me if I gave up gluten, I think. :)

And yeah, my parents are taking us all to Vail for a week at the end of July. SO excited. I haven't been to CO since before Reid was born, and that was just a long weekend for a wedding.

You know, my doctor mentioned that wheat has really changed in composition AND it's in EVERYTHING now, so she thinks there is something to it as well.  And my friend, who is in charge of food services for senior services, also mentioned that same thing when I was at her house this weekend.  I also don't feel the bloat/gassy feeling as much.  It's only been 5 days, so I'm hoping to see some improvements in other digestive areas as well (I've always had probs there).  Baked goods are hard for me, too.   I really like baking, so it's sucky :D  I did make some flour free brownies this weekend that were basically powdered sugar and egg whites and cocoa, and they were ok, different, but not bad.  I'm struggling the most with not being able to just run out and grab a quick lunch...  qdoba naked salads are my only option close to work right now.  Tonight I'm going to purposefully cook enough for leftovers (I often just cook the right amount for the 2 of us), so that I can have that for lunch tomorrow.  I'm still eating potatoes, which helps.  I've made those smashed potatoes I posted about on FB, twice baked potatoes, and home fries in the last week.  :D  And I have some sweet potatoes at home to whip up as well.

I realized that I can make some chili or chicken taco soup gluten free really easily, so I may make some of that this weekend to bring in for lunches.

I hope that this new style of eating works for you!  Are you concerned about celiac disease?

Debba, it doesn't sound like you'll have free time for a meet up, but if you did, let me know :)  I'd love to get together!

merigayle

Courtney- yeah to both! I eat almost no gluten, but have thought about going completely gluten free. You know me, i will try anything to lose a few pounds :D Miso soup for lunch today  :eyeroll: trying to be really good. DD wanted breakfast cookies and i ate a couple, i did sub oatmeal ground down instead of flour.

Thanks, Courtney! I'm not sure how things are going to go - I won't have a car (I can't see my parents letting me borrow their car to jaunt off to Denver for the day or something), and it just seemed mean to throw it out to the CO CHers that I'd be there but that you'd all have to drive to Vail to see me, LOL.

I hope the gluten-free thing goes well for you, and you, too, tricia!

Foooook! My soup exploded in the car on the way to work :( It is all over me and it was in a plastic shopping bag, but it still leaked like the Dickens :( I had a mini clif bar to hold me over until dinner (5 hours from now......). Did I mention I am now sponsored by Clif and have a bajillion free samples? they are only 100 cals/piece luckily.

Oh no!

I'm glad you have Clif samples (and how COOL that you have a sponsor!!!!), but oh, that sucks about your soup!

my poor poor soup. i hope my car does not smell too bad when i get in it to go home :D yes, i get 3 shipments of 6 cases of clif bars this year and lots of free shwag. I have a few sponsors for Badwater, nothing huge, but lots of freebies :D I hope to get atleast a free race entry this year from Brooks. They demoted most of their sponsored runners this year, which was fine because i rarely run in Brooks anymore, just wear their clothes.
