Thanks RA - I remember that! I agree, with all the running, it's fired up my appetite. Plus, I have been indulging in things like small portions of baked chips, which just make me want larger portions of baked chips. It's like a gateway food, I swear.  :P

Glad to hear that you feel good about your eating habits. That's one thing I would be concerned about with any injury or period of inactivity...that I'd slide into bad habits or worry too much about what I was eating. As it is now, if I don't run for a day or two, I have to fight feeling like I am being "bad" or going to gain weight instantly and lose fitness instantly. I know most of the time I think about it all reasonably and overall I have good habits, but those little voices are there, too.

That is pretty much where I am at too. I still have those thoughts. In fact, I stepped on the scale today SURE that I'd gained a lot of weight. I was surprised to see I'd actually dropped some. Overall, I'm happy with my eating and weight... but I do find myself feeling like a "cheater" and thinking "that skinny girl over there probably doesn't eat 4 licorice whips after lunch and that is why she's skinny and you're not".

I too am afraid I will wake up fat again one day. I can't bring myself to donate my bigger clothes, even though I never wear them... because what if they fit me again? I should just do it. I know I'll feel better for it. ...and it's silly to think that'd I'd regain 30lbs over nigth and not notice. Right?

I've found that sometimes the scale is my friend. I've tried going by "feel" of my clothes. But then I obsess about whether those pants are tighter than they were last time I tried them on. So, like today, getting on the scale and SEEING a reasonable number helped me shut up the insecurity voices.

But then, on the other hand, Saturday night I had dinner with a friend and we ate a like 5 baskets of chips, had guac, I had a beer and amargarita, and cheese enchiladas. So... although the voices in my head are berrating me for dipping into the candy bowl, I'm also not depriving myself by any means.

Also... You are training for a half marathon. Eat real chips, for goodness sake!

But, honestly, I was pleasently surprised that pretty much no matter what I ate, i was running enough miles that it just didn't seem to matter. So, I say, live it up while your mileage is high and rein it in when you're in a more maintenance running phase!

Well lookie there. I lost 7 pounds without even trying.

I'm back on caffeine.  :nails: I don't want to think about the headaches I'll get when I quit again.

cgraz

Isn't caffeine a job requirement?  ;)

I was off it for a few months last summer and gradually went back on, just to the tune of 1 cup in the morning. If I have something else later in the day, it's decaf. Considering that the only other thing I drink is water and seltzer, I don't think that one cup is going to be my downfall.

If I had unlimited access to tasty delicious coffee, I'd probably drink way more than that though!

RA,
Donate the larger-sized clothes.
When I was Removing my 50 slabs of blubber on WW, our leader once discussed the clothing topic with us.
He said, "if you save your fat person clothes, then you're giving yourself license to gain it back. If you purchase new, smaller sizes, you'll be more motivated to make smart food choices, eat in a meaningful manner, stay fit, etc."

Good luck! Maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle is a never ever ending journey.  :lambie:

I managed to have my meals all at the wrong time today.  Had 2 hard boiled eggs and 2 slices of buttered toast around 10:30, and hunger plus time didn't match up again until around 4:15.  So I went home and ate lunch (leftover pizza plus a bunch of animal cookies)  and sliced up a bunch of stuff and started a chicken soup in the crockpot.  Hopefully I'll be hungry enough to eat some of it by 8 or so.  Also that it tastes ok.  I've never made it before and I just kind of winged it. I need to go to the store and buy more containers; almost all of mine are already in the freezer with various foodstuffs in them.  And a few are probably at someone else's house.

But, someone in my injury thread said that when they stopped running their appetite went away and they lost a bunch of weight, and that has been true too. Well, I don't know about a bunch... I'm back down to pretty much my lowest weight in 10 years. Of course, I'm now  :panic: because I know it's just muscle wasting.

I think that may have been me.  When I was injured, I walked, and lost way so much weight so easily.  In fact, I have decided to run 5 easy miles a day this week, and I have no constant desire to eat.  I do not believe it's muscle: what evidence do you have?  I saw my fat % go down.

Run Amok

Well, I'm not doing anything (not supposed to even walk)... so I guess it's just an assumption. But, I was sick the preceding 3 weeks, so maybe it's not muscle at this point. Looking  forward to walking!

Maybe try breaking things down into smaller meals and just plan to eat more often? Then instead of snacking on whatever... you're eating purposefully and prepared for it, when hunger strikes.

Also, I've had to just come to terms with the fact that my "dinner" time is more like 4:30/5. So, I do best to eat something dinner sized then and then maybe a snack or something around regular dinner time- if I do get hungry later. I eat lunch at 11:30, though, so I guess that makes sense.

I suspect that part of my problem is that I only work two days a week, and on the days I don't work I have very little along the lines of a schedule or a routine.  I don't really eat meals, I mostly just graze.  Then when I do work, my eating habits are all out of whack.  I'd prefer not to snack at work if I can get around it, partly because there's not a regular time for me to take a break, and partly because I'd rather not eat in my office.  It might be a good idea for a while though, and maybe I'll be able to transition to more of a three meals a day eating pattern.

Well, the soup was bland.  But salt and pepper fixed that.  It's edible.

What did you put in it, veggie wise?

Nice feeling, isn't it?  I got some Ball jar freezable containers, 1 and 2 cups each, and am making soups on the weekends for the second half of the workweek. It all goes into the freezer.  It is great.  I have some bean soup and some squash soup waiting for tonight and tomorrow night.

Yep! Love that! I have a bunch of the ziplock ones and a bunch of the  glad (sorry roach!) ones. I need to buy a few more. I feel like I can never have enough!

I used some leftover chicken broth, 1/2 a beer, and water
Chunks of chicken
carrots
celery
onion
garlic
thyme
Italian parsley
salt
pepper
bowtie pasta

I was going to throw in some potato, but they'd gone bad.  Mainly it needed more salt and pepper.  And more chicken broth and less water.  But I certainly used up some leftovers, which was the point.  And I have several bowls of the stuff in the freezer, had lunch today, and provided lunch for the guy I kind of date (with instructions to add a bunch of salt and pepper).

I was told on this forum to add balsamic vinegar to any soup.  They promised me instant flavor...  Try it.

merigayle

A tiny bit of balsamic is great when making tomato sauce!
Fionn mac Cumhail :Meri will rise from the casket and beat you...and then run one last Badwater before burying herself.

rocketgirl

I don't have any regular balsamic.  I have chocolate balsamic vinegar which I haven't figured put what to do with yet
