I was beginning to think this thread went away forever!

I am now 18days into my Whole30. And I FEEL AMAZING!!!!  I've lost 10 lbs and my blood pressure firmly in the "normal" range.

My only problem is I am getting bored. I bought two new cookbooks, "Well Fed", and "Against the Grain." I'm hoping to avoid what caused my downfall last time. Which was BOREDOM with the food!! I know there are a million things to eat. But what?!

Any advice from the veterans?

CheryG

congrats tricia!

when I get bored I click on Pinterest and do a search for Paleo.  TONS of ideas pop up and I waste a lot of time drooling over recipes.  Some aren't 100% Whole30 compliant, but many are.

Here's my recipe board...

Not pretty, but there seems to be a lot of ideas.

I think I'm working my way up to a whole 30 attempt.  I just need to wrap my head around black coffee. :(

CheryG

Try it cold?  I don't know why but of coffee is hot I prefer it with stuff in it.  Cold I prefer it black.  The DH makes a pot in the morning and turns the coffee maker off so by the time I get up it's perfect.

GreenMan

I have iced cold-brew coffee every day. Cold-brewing makes it taste SOOO much better.
Habits eat good intentions for breakfast.

And Rio, for sure I'll cheerlead here but over at the UDBB there's a pack of rabid Paleo/Whole30 folk that would be thrilled to help.  JamiD, Nianine, etc.  I think horse people are more open to trying it because we're so fussy about how we feed our critters.  The Whole30 seems totally normal and/or even less obsessive by comparison.

You can add coconut milk.  That is what I do.  Or almond milk.

Can you make it a mocha somehow?

My morning caffeine is what stops me from trying something like this.  Terrible, but true!!

CheryG

Well, if that's all that is stopping you, use chocolate coconut milk!

I hate coconut milk.  :D. I tried to like it, but it tastes....  Coconutty!

I'm reading a lot on this.  I think it's the route I should go.

CheryG

Almond milk maybe?  :d

Doooo it.  If you don't like it you can always stop.  Even then, it's only 30 days.

I am insanely glad I tried it!

Maybe Tricia should tell more about how amazing she feels!

I am so glad I gave it another go.

When I did it in May, I wasn't completely 100% on board. And as a result, I ran out of ideas and just got so bored with food. I LOVE to cook. I LOVE to eat. This time around, I got so sick of feeling sick. Feeling cloudy. Tired. Irritable. Fat. So I went all in. I researched recipes. I shopped the night before and cooked the night before so I would have food for the next couple of days.

I find that if I cook ahead a bit, I am more likely to have no problems. I also try to have some sort of quickie thing ready in the fridge. Soup. Grilled chicken. Tuna salad (I found a compliant mayo.)

I FEEL SOOOO GOOOOD. I have no bloating issues. I feel it mostly in my gut. My clothes are fitting better. And I've lost pounds.

I will say this. If you eat out at restaurants for most of your meals now, you are doomed.

We eat out a lot right now, for a whole host of reasons.  The big one is that I'm being lazy.

Thank you for sharing that, Tricia.  I feel like we've had some of the same issues over the years, so I really am thrilled for you, and I find it incredibly hopeful and inspiring.  I need to get my DH on board.  I can't do it without that, I'm sure.  I'm also very easily swayed, apparently, which is just a side effect of not being invested and wanting to really make a change.  I feel like I've constantly got something "special" going on, and I tend to fail pretty hard then.  For example.  Thursday I have wine & painting night with friends, then the weekend after this coming one, I have a trip home to my family's house where my mom will make amazing food, and then the weekend after that, we have company in the form of DH's cousin & wife, and we will be literally hanging out at a beer festival (although, I don't drink beer due to gluten) and eating bar food as a result.  I just feel like it sucks so bad to not be a part of things, which is totally my issue, but knowing that doesn't make it suck less to me.  I want to be able to be normal, and eat food in moderation and not have special circumstances be a huge deal.

Yet, I also want to feel better.  Even after giving up gluten, I still have plenty of GI issues.  They are far better, mind you, which has made it entirely easy to stay way from it.

A lot of this is in my head (not the feeling better issue) and I know it's stuff I have to work on.  I'm not, and have never been, good at being black and white at stuff.  So going whole hog into a plan is always tough for me.  When I get a handle on moderation, I do ok, but that doesn't fix the GI issues, for sure.

Did y'all want a novel on the inner workings of my mind?  :D

And tea is gross.  :D
