Mom of Scooby

Some people in my running group were meeting today at 4:00am to run 20 miles before work.. They do this a lot on Friday.. But today, two of them were meeting at 3:40 to get in 22... It's like the middle of the night!

I wouldn't do it. I am so slow I would probably never make it to work.

They circle back at 5 to meet the group who is starting at 5.. I'm on the list because they run close to my work.. but they are way too fast for me.. They are so fast that they manage to have coffee at Wegman's before they leave to shower and go to work!

Carson

Not crazy at all. Nope. I would do this and we all know I'm not crazy.

And neither am I.

Belgian Lace

Not crazy.  If you want to do it, you find a way to get it done.

I've done it, but not on a weekday. After 20+ milers I usually need a nap.

I don't know how someone could get up at 2:45 ish to run at 3:40 , run 22 miles and then go to work all day

Get yourself to bed by 8-9 and it's not all that bad.  I personally couldn't do it because I'm not a morning person and kind of a wimp when it comes to running long.  That doesn't make it crazy though.  My hat's off to those who make it work.

Yogi

I would do it in an off day but not in a workday. For me it's not the hour that's prohibitive, it's not having control over the rest of my day to nap, loosen up, etc.

radial

Nah.  20 (and up) milers are for weekends or days off.

siamesedream

There is no way I could do it.

I often run 20 miles before work, but at 9am :D Come 4pm I would be dead if i woke up that early. I need to be up quite a bit before motoring out the door, let alone driving somewhere on top of it.

That's impressive.
You must have some kind of special long distance mitochondria/genetics.

I've never done a 20 mile run in my life.

I've always felt the key to the 20 mile run was the afternoon nap.  Unless you're Dagwood, you can't nap at work.

Magic Microbe

Anyone that regularly runs 20 miles is already a little bit nutty.

Fionn mac Cumhail

I've done it plenty...the pain in the ass of running from 3am to 6am or so is overtaken by the feeling of being the biggest badass in the office...

This.  Doing it before the ass-crack of dawn only makes it marginally more crazy than doing it at a normal time of day.

Completely agree.  But they are probably younger, too. At our age, they will not do this anymore.
