I did my 5th full at the Equinox Marathon on Saturday (3 relays in earlier years) and last as an AK resident. I did it last year too but not even sure if I filed a report. Anyway, my goal this time was to beat last year's 3:17:20, which was an age group record for the rugged mostly trail marathon that has a mountain in the middle (1600 ft between mile 8 and 12.5, with lots of climbs and descents along other portions). But the weather was pretty nasty with rain and 40s (last year it was snow on the course and 20s).

Ended up being pacer-rabbit for a woman who was attempting to break the all time women's record. We ran together for 15 miles before I opened up a bit, in pursuit of my goal of 3:15. It was ugly at times with slipping and sliding, especially on the last 8 miles, nausea over the last 2, and enough rain to require a couple of shirt-jacket changes.

Fini in 3:15:51, new age group record and 2nd best all time masters age grade. The young woman I ran with set the record with a 3:17, about a minute ahead of the old record (set by a friend of ours, hope she's okay with that!).

awesome, doing what other won't do.

and cool pic too!
The scientific consensus might, of course, be wrong. If the history of science teaches anything, it is humility. But our grandchildren will surely blame us if they find that we understood the reality of climate change and failed to do anything about it.

And in the small small very small world, the new women's record holder pictured here was my on of my son's Montessorri school teachers in Colorado ca. 2002-03. That was so far away and so long ago. At the awards she met my wife and then son and then realized the connection.
