My guess is baked.

I am hungry. I could have everything right now. No mater how aweful it looks.

What are beaver tails?

I think they are pastries shaped to roughly resemble the tails of beavers.  No actual beavers were harmed by Karen.

I couldn't tell if beaver tails were sweet or savory.

Truthfully, when I first saw the picture, I thought they were actual beaver tails!

Beryl made corn chowder, served with lots of ground pepper. Most of the comments are expressing surprise or dismay about the pepper...

Thankfully, she posted the recipe. Easy Peasy Corn Chowder... 1 med can of cream corn, 1/2 can of cream, 1/2 can milk, onion, cubed potatoe (pre cook in microwave for 10 min., Salt, pepper, dash cayenne pepper, grated carrot (which I forgot to add today) Bake in oven 350 for 60 min. stirring at 15 min intervals.

right, they are kind of like donuts and I don't really like them, but lots of people do

Joey had a snack of smoked capelin.

For the record, smoked capelin are crazy delcious if you like fishy-fish. Best eaten heated up on the grill or over a fire while you are cooking other stuff, best to have a good crisp super-cold beer on hand too.

Not appropriate for reduced salt diets though.

are they like boquerones?  I'm intrigued now.

I love black pepper but I am sneezing just looking at the bowl.

Also, I rarely make soup or chowder of any kind.  But I have only once used the oven and it was to caramelize onions for French onion soup.  Is it common?

boquerones are anchovy, right?

capelin and small (smelt-sized), dark-fleshed, and super-oily... so maybe? bigger for sure than the anchovy you get in a tin, but I think boquerones are large-ish for anchovy?

in Nfld, we eat the male capelin primarily (females are worth more money and are exported to southeast Asia mostly)... well, we eat any and all of them fresh, caught mostly by hand or by cast-net onshore when they are rolling (mating schools)... the ones caught at sea are separated male/female during processing... typically, they are salted and dried, or salted and smoked dry... the smoked ones make the best snacks... salted are best (IMO) soaked and pickled like herring

Yes, boquerones are anchovies.  I like little, salty fish :)

Same. And at first glance, the pepper looks like fleas.  :panic:

I don't know if anyone remembers Bill's wife's sinking dumplings: http://chrunners.net/forum/index.php?topic=123073.msg3191462#msg3191462

but just to demonstrate that is not just the way Newfoundlanders do dumplings, Melissa made a pot of pea soup with dough boys, like doughboys should look
