Bits of news are starting to trickle in.

QuoteNo time trial for Cancellara at world championships
By:  Cycling News Published: September 05, 2014, 0:05 BST,   Updated: September 05, 2014, 1:22 BST  Race: UCI Road World Championships

Trek rider focused on winning the road race

The Swiss Cycling Federation has announced that Fabian Cancellara will not contest the time trial event at the UCI road world championships in Spain later this month.

The 33-year-old Swiss rider is a four time time trial world champion but has stated his sole focus is on securing the road race rainbow jersey in 2014.

With a palmarès that includes over 20 days in the Tour de France's yellow jersey, seven stages at the French grand tour, seven monuments and an Olympic gold medal among many more wins, for Cancellara, the missing item from his trophy cabinet is the rainbow jersey.

Currently racing the Vuelta a España with his Trek Factory Racing team, Cancellara was third in the first time trial of the grand tour having received a time penalty for drafting.

Also -- Wiggins, Froome, and Millar have all made Britain's short list for the road race team. Wiggins and Froome together again!  :d

Columbia for Worlds:

Elite Men: Rigoberto Uran (Omega Pharma-Quick Step),
Winner Anacona (Lampre Merida),
Janier Acevedo (Garmin Sharp),
Sebastian Henao (Team Sky),
Julian Arredondo (Trek Factory Racing),
Esteban Chaves (Orica GreenEdge),
Carlos Betancur (Ag2r La Mondiale),
Miguel Angel Rubiano and
Carlos Julian Quintero (both Colombia Team).

That's a strong team even without Quintana. Notice that they get 9 while the US only gets 6. This has been a sucky year for US cycling. I'm guessing Phinney's and Horner's crashes hurt the point total.

Peter Sagan (Cannondale) and Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ.fr) have abandoned the Vuelta a Espana as the race heads into the decisive mountain stages in the Asturias region of northern Spain. Both riders are set to ride the World Championships in Ponferrada later this month and have opted to recover and train rather than suffer in the mountains. http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/sagan-bouhanni-out-of-vuelta-a-espana

I suspect Spartacus will follow them shortly.

Of course he will!

That Colombia team is awesome.

British teams for worlds:

Sky lineup for TTT.
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/wiggins-to-lead-sky-team-time-trial-squad-at-worlds

Wiggins will ride the TT for Britain and Sky for not the road race. Froome will ride the road race but not either TT.  They've already separate the assets, they should go ahead and get the divorce.

Preview of US men's team for worlds:

Marcotte is a total unknown, except that he won nationals. A chiropractor and part time racer. He seems pretty psyched to be on the team and willing to bury himself.  :fingers:  I'd like to read another interview with him after the race.

You buys saw that BMC won the TTT, right?

Evie Stevens took third!   :lambie:

Whoa! I read she was disappointed that her team lost. I missed that they crashed. That was a lot like the Garmin crash in the Giro that took out half their team.

ihop

Holy crap that is a crash.  Ugh.

Sheesh. That was bad. And they actually got back on their bikes and finished.  :bow2:
